The breakfast was hearty and huge, and when we checked out the cute old lady who owns the place gave us eggs. The house itself is a charming old traditional one, with very nice tatami rooms and a thick duvet. There’s even a poster of the owner in the house and another at the nearby restaurant Oone. The onsen gets super hot, and the outdoor bath is especially good under the stars. I’d definitely stay again.

Such a cute place, a little old-school but very welcoming. You can use the indoor and outdoor hot baths and steam bath privately for free. Breakfast was a full Japanese spread, with lots of different sweet and savory dishes. I really enjoyed it.

The three onsen are a big part of what makes Miyuki-ya special. They’re known for their healing qualities, and soaking in them is a relaxing way to enjoy the natural setting around Oita. The inn also serves local food, including fresh seafood and regional dishes. With tatami rooms and futons alongside modern comforts, it offers a traditional stay in a peaceful atmosphere. Miyuki-ya is a well-established ryokan in Oita, Japan, and is known for its hospitality.

There’s an outdoor hot spring you can reserve for private use, which is great for families or couples who want to soak together. The guesthouse itself feels very warm and welcoming.

There’s no public tub here, just three private onsen options: two outdoors and one indoors, with a steam sauna. I chose the indoor one this time. The tub was huge, easily big enough for four, and the water was hot. There’s also a cold-water pipe to adjust the temperature to your liking. An oni yuzu, a large Japanese citrus that looks like a citron, was floating in the water and smelled lovely. The sauna door was the smallest I’ve ever seen, so cute, and you really do have to crawl in. Once inside, there’s enough room to sit upright, with what seemed like a tatami floor. A cold-water shower is there to rinse off afterward before getting back into the onsen. Everything was excellent and very clean. I’d definitely recommend it, and I plan to try the other two onsen next time. Staff were friendly and relaxed. It costs ¥500 per person for an hour. Shampoo is provided, but bring your own towel. Parking is behind the ryokan. Pay at reception and pick up your onsen stamp there; if nobody is around when you arrive, press the little bell button.
