The red carpet at reception was very clean and well looked after. The hotel itself is aged, but it was also very clean, and the staff provided great service. At first the wooden tub looked small, but it was plenty big in height and width, with a nice sea view. The windows slide sideways, so the air circulates well, and I really enjoyed soaking in the hot spring while looking outside. During certain hours there’s free tea and coffee at reception. The staff were all friendly and explained each dish to us in Japanese. We didn’t understand the words, but their gestures helped us get some of it, and that warmed my heart.

Cats all over Beppu! The staff were friendly, and I liked the very nice Japanese-style room and the private onsen upstairs. Sorry about missing breakfast all three mornings, caller, please don’t mind. I just couldn’t wake up. Appreciated the stay.

Our room was at the back of the hotel, looking out over the parking lot and a busy road. The rooms opposite had sea views, which made the difference especially noticeable. Dinner was really bad too, though maybe they had a different chef that day. The products didn’t seem fresh or tasty, and the food looked nothing like the hotel pictures. The child’s meal was cold nuggets and fries. If you end up eating in the dining room, the atmosphere is cold and depressing, which made the meal even worse. Make sure you get a sea-view room and a private dining room if you want to enjoy your stay. Otherwise, you may feel robbed.

Yes, it’s expensive, as some reviews say, but I came here for a break. We booked a spacious room with western-style bedding, a private sea-view onsen, and half board. The layout felt welcoming: the washroom was separate from the basin area, sleeping space, and onsen tub, and it all seemed arranged for a restful night. We had kaiseki in a shared room and breakfast in a private one. The staff serving meals explained the food in limited English, and I appreciated that they made the effort.

The Japanese-style superior room was comfortable, and I slept like a baby. It’s a convenient place with very accommodating service, and the food was delicious too. If you love seafood and beautiful scenery, I’d recommend this hotel. The rooftop private onsen is available for an extra 1000¥. I hope to come back soon! ♥️
