The restaurant looked new and spacious, with a good selection and more desserts than I usually see at Oedo onsen hotels. The lobby had free drinks and a relaxing sand foot bath. It was also nice to use the day-use onsen next door, which had a steam bath I’d never seen before. The room felt dated next to the lobby and restaurant, and the reception service was below average compared to usual. The baths were a bit disappointing. In the indoor bath, there was constant running and jumping overhead from the children’s room, so relaxing was impossible. Maybe it would be better once the kids are asleep. The rooftop bath was okay and nice, though a little too hot. Amenities were good as usual. Getting around without a car wasn’t very convenient. We took a bus from Beppu station, but there are around 3 or 4 bus stops within walking distance, each with a different schedule, so check carefully before checking out. It was good, just not the best premium Oedo onsen we’ve stayed at.

The fire alarm malfunctioned at 11:30 pm and rang for 30 minutes, ruining our sleep. Nobody apologized when we checked out. On top of that, the rooms were small and noisy, and the management was rude. This was the worst experience I’ve had in Japanese accommodation.

The staff were polite and pleasant, but that didn't make up for the rest. The dining area was disgusting, with a floor that was VERY sticky throughout. Food was often cold and left unattended. The beds were a problem too. The mattresses felt like concrete, the pillows were just as hard, and the carpet was rough and unpleasant to walk on. My back hurt quite a lot from trying to sleep on the mattresses. For this price, I'd rather stay at a cheap hotel and get a more comfortable room. Edit: I found shaved hair in the sink, some strands beside the bathtub, and a snippet of a bandaid under my bed lol.

The buffet food was really delicious. Upstairs on the second floor, you can read comic books and use the massage chairs. They cost 300 yen for 15 minutes.

The older woman at the steamer food section was really rude. She took the tongs right out of my hand so I couldn't get food, and also grabbed the steamer from another customer so people couldn't take 2 steamers. She didn't say anything, just physically snatched things. Unbelievable behavior at a hotel buffet.
