The dorm room was clean and tidy, though not very spacious, and there weren't many amenities in it. The shared bathroom had a standard Japanese bath setup and faucets, and the tight space took me a while to get used to. Common areas were cozy and quiet during my stay, perhaps because only a few other groups were there. Hosts were friendly and unassuming, and clearly willing to go out of their way to help, though I didn't interact with them much. Breakfast in the dining area was okay, nothing especially memorable. The nightly dorm price felt a little high. The location is out among the patchwork hills. I could walk to the scenic spots there, but walking from the train station in winter looked pretty rough. I used the complimentary pickup, which took about five minutes.

For 59 600¥ for two nights, I expected a nice hotel, but the service felt more like a youth hostel. We booked a room with our own bath and toilet, yet during our two-night stay they didn't make up the room at all. They just handed us two towels as we were going upstairs. The breakfast was horrible. Dinner was okay at a separate French restaurant, but the atmosphere there was depressing. The staff were nice, though their recommendations weren't interesting. Most guests seemed to be staying in the dormitory, which may explain the hostel-like service. I was quite disappointed with the value for money. If you want a room with its own bathroom and toilet, I'd recommend going elsewhere.

The room was comfortable and clean, but dinner was the highlight. They serve good produce from nearby farms, and the vegetables were so tasty. Try their special blend coffee with soybeans. The owner speaks good English and is very friendly. He enthusiastically shared nearby attractions, gave weather forecasts, and offered advice on the best ways to get around.

The owner went out of his way to help me with my travels and picked me up from the station. When I left, I chose to walk back. The location was lovely, and this is among my top five places to stay in Japan. It was my first trip to Hokkaido, and the staff, food, and bed were excellent.

The owner was very nice, and the place was clean and tidy. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent, with a homelike feel.
