Casa Estacion Hikone

The thing that bothered me throughout the stay was a distinctive smell. I can't tell if it's from Shiga prefecture or the house's age, but it seemed like sewage or drainage. Still, as a parent with small children, I'd rather stay somewhere unfamiliar just with people I know than share a building with strangers, so I really appreciate places like this. It's perfectly adequate when all you need is a place to sleep. This was my first homestay-style accommodation. The room was clean and looked like an old house that had been renovated. There's one parking space, but it only fits a kei car (mini car); regular cars can use a nearby coin parking lot. Entry is by PIN code, and the front door is poorly constructed. You have to pull it shut until you hear a click. There's a kitchen, though apparently fire isn't allowed under fire safety rules. A microwave is available to heat lunch, and the washer and dryer take coins for a fee. The bathroom is like one in a house. There's also a projector, but the picture is poor and too white, which strains your eyes. The white indoor lighting does too. I wish they'd at least put in dimmable LED lights. The price is the same for adults and children.
