The cabin was warm and really clean when we arrived, and it looks especially lovely in winter with all that snow around it. The place is a hidden gem in Hokkaido. The cabins are a bit old, but gorgeous. We only stayed overnight and didn’t get a chance to use the onsen. My wife booked one of the cabins for us, though we’d reserved one with beds and got a tatami room instead, so I marked down the service. There are four single beds upstairs, plus a tatami room behind sliding doors. It’s all open plan, so you’ll want to get along with whoever you’re staying with. A snorer could bother everyone. A few updates would help, like new curtains and a kitchen refresh, but what’s there is fine if you’re not too picky. Bring your own coffee mugs and frying pan. There’s no Wi-Fi, but who needs it in a log cabin out in the countryside? We’ll definitely come back in summer to try the tennis courts, onsen, and kayaking.

The onsen was good, and the place was clean and tidy. It’s a little old, so keep your expectations in check, but it’s a nice spot to stay.

It’s cheap and cheerful, but there’s no outdoor bath.

There’s a restaurant here, and the onsen itself is on the small side.

I went around 6 PM and found only one or two other guests. Mostly locals, and it was quiet and calm, so the visit felt really relaxing. The indoor bath was nice, but I especially enjoyed sitting on the benches in the changing room. There are also two chairs in the bathing area and three benches in the changing room. There’s no outdoor bathing space. The sauna has two levels and room for about 10 people. It has a thermometer and a 15-minute hourglass, but no TV. I found it hot enough to warm up thoroughly in about 10 minutes. The large bath was a little hot, just right for washing off the sweat afterward. Then going straight into the icy cold bath, about 10°C, felt fantastic. The cold bath fits about two people, and its temperature changes with the season, from around 16°C in summer to nearly 10°C in November. The hot spring water is a cold, hypotonic, weakly alkaline mineral spring. It felt soft on my skin, and I stayed refreshed and warm for quite a while after bathing. There are two hair dryers, shampoo, and body soap, along with fans, scales, cold water dispensers, and plenty of sauna mats. The toilets are Western-style. Bath entry is ¥500 plus a ¥150 bath tax. Towels can be rented for ¥150, and the ¥100 locker fee is returnable. They take cash only.
