A Japanese friend booked a kaiseki meal for us. Everything was carefully prepared, cooked perfectly where needed, and presented beautifully. These are only a few of the courses. The whole fish sashimi was fabulous.

This is my fifth year in a row coming to Umenoya for tiger fugu kaiseki lunch. We usually arrive in about 10 cars, but this year there were 12 cars and 18 people. Everyone leaves satisfied, which is why I’ve kept up the yearly visits. The group members change, so I don’t know how long we’ll continue, but if you’re looking for tiger fugu kaiseki, I recommend this place. The price went up by 1,000 yen this year. The courses are 9,000 and 10,000 yen. We lined up Ferraris in front of the entrance this time so the photos would look good. Thanks for the meal!

I found this place last year while searching online for "Misaki Gazami" (a type of crab). The crab was every bit as delicious as people said. When I made the reservation, I explained that I’m elderly and can’t eat much. They prepared one whole crab and rice cooked in an earthenware pot with crab, which was just the right amount and left me very satisfied. I noticed there were more reviews about "Fugu" (pufferfish), so I came back this year to try "Torafugu" (tiger pufferfish). I ate a whole pufferfish and was extremely satisfied. Along with the standard course, there was steamed egg custard with pufferfish milt, four kinds of collagen-rich skin, and 100% buckwheat soba noodles from Bungo Takada. There’s only one dish left for me to try. I’ve firmly decided to have "Hamo" (pike conger) next year!

I asked for the fugu course when I booked and had specified our dinner time, so there was no waiting. The fugu dishes just kept coming. The fine texture of the egg in the rice porridge that finished the meal was outstanding. I recommend it.

We didn’t stay overnight, just came to eat. There were four of us, starting at 11:00 AM on October 10, 2020. The sashimi was lukewarm, the conger eel was watery, and honestly, the meal was a bit disappointing after going all the way to Kakachi. The crab was certainly impressive, but it didn’t taste fresh. Two crabs cost an additional 7,000 yen. Food: 4,000 yen x 4, plus 7,000 yen for two crabs. Asahi beer, one bottle, 700 yen. Three bottles of juice, 750 yen. Service charge: 1,400 yen. Tax: 2,585 yen. Local coupon: 3,000 yen.
