You’ll need a car to get here, but I really recommend this place whether you’re on your own or with a group. It’s an old hotel turned into a modern mix of camping, glamping, and lodging. There’s loads of space, with a lake, river, mountain views, a ping-pong table, a stage, weekly campfires, and even a bar.

I didn’t stay at the campsite, just spent a few hours at the lodge cafe. The views were great, and so were the Americanos, whiskey, and service.

No campfire, no life.

I worked remotely in Tateshina for a day and stayed in a room in the main building, not the camping area. This old guesthouse has been renovated in a simple, streamlined way and is very comfortable. The first-floor open area has plenty of sofa seating, power outlets, and excellent Wi-Fi. The rooms also have strong Wi-Fi, and the bar serves local craft beer. The hot springs are excellent, with an open-air bath, and breakfast was just right for a B&B, high quality without being too much. The bath hair dryer was decent, too. The camping area is huge and looks really comfortable, and there’s even a sauna there! If you love saunas, it’s a great place to work from. They accept PayPal, too. I’d definitely like to come back.

We stayed in a Japanese-style room in the main building in September, and it was cleaner and cozier than we expected. The shared bath was great for a soak, and we went in several times morning and evening to warm up. Rain put an end to our bonfire plans, so we had a hearty meal at a nearby yakiniku restaurant instead. Back at the lodge, we relaxed in the stylish lounge. We don’t usually eat breakfast, but we had a filling one with delicious coffee. Next time we’ve decided to try a cabin. Before heading home, we played golf at a nearby course. The course was great, though my score was just so-so. Thanks!
