Tateshina Tokyu Hotel

The hotel has a pool and sits right beside a green pond. There’s also a terrace and dining area, and the rooms come with a kettle and coffee and tea set. Dinner is a nice Japanese menu, while breakfast gives you a choice of Japanese or Western food. The hotel is in the Tateshina area, a complex with restaurants, convenience stores, a forest adventure park, trekking paths, and a huge golf course.

On both visits, we enjoyed wandering the beautiful, well-kept grounds. Our first stay was in the main building, with a lovely view toward the lake. The second time, we brought our toy poodle and stayed in a streamside two-bedroom cabin. The trees and stream there were magnificent, and relaxing in our own cabin surrounded by greenery, with the sound of the water, was wonderful. We had a few minor issues with getting timely service in the cabin, but thoroughly enjoyed both stays. Next time, we’ll probably try their other facility perched on the cliff, which has breathtaking views. We brought our own food and ate out, so I can’t comment on the restaurants. For anyone needing fast, reliable wifi, there’s a dedicated facility for a small fee, with a large open space and two small private rooms plus one larger one.

We spent one night in a cottage right beside the river. It was very quiet and dark at night, and spacious enough for four people. There isn’t much to do in the area. If you don’t want to eat at the hotel, you have to drive farther to Suwa.

A wonderful hotel with good service. A nice place to spend some time and enjoy yourself.
