Machiyado Motomachi

It’s reasonably priced, so I’ve stayed here many times. They offer plans with an overnight stay, with or without breakfast. I also appreciate the bar and Western food. If you’re driving, watch out for the one-way street right in front of the hotel.

The owner is really nice, and I had a lovely, restful stay in a clean room. Breakfast was amazing too, delicious and with huge portions. Such a good way to start the day!

The owner was very polite, and both the guest rooms and shared space were clean, making for a comfortable stay. It’s easy to get around, with stations and restaurants nearby. I’ll definitely stay here again.

This is Machiyado Motomachi in Hitachi-Daigo, Ibaraki. I stayed because I had something to do the next morning. It’s a guesthouse or capsule hotel setup, with shared bathrooms and toilets. There are very few amenities, but you can buy towels and toothbrush sets cheaply. Towels have to be returned. The nearest 7-Eleven is about a five-minute drive or a 20-minute walk away. There are around 4-5 rooms. You go through several card key checks to get in. My room had about six partitions, two of which were occupied. Everyone is expected to keep quiet around each other. Each partition has just a futon, pillow, power outlet, and lamp, which I think is simple and good. The bath isn’t filled with hot water in advance, so you have to do everything yourself. Body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and a hairdryer are provided. Past the entrance are two common rooms. One has a TV; the other is for meals and has a water dispenser, with some everyday items scattered around too. I had dinner and breakfast here. A young man seemed to run the place mostly on his own. The dinner menu wasn’t extensive, but the food was quite good, and he seemed to have plenty of experience. See photos. Lights are generally out at 10 p.m., so keep track of your key card. Everyone followed the rules and stayed quiet, which made for a comfortable visit. It was around 6000 yen with dinner and breakfast. I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone who’s extremely particular about cleanliness or has germophobia. There are hotels a short distance away, but this worked perfectly well for us.
