The onsen is huge, with two indoor sections and an outdoor area. Our room was spotless and came with a breathtaking view. Check-in was easy, and the service was superb. Dinner and breakfast buffets both had a wide range of dishes. Best value for money of any hotel we’ve stayed at.

Midorikaze Resort Kitayuzawa sits quietly in the mountains, with a cozy, snowbound lodge feel. It lives up to the name, “A Stroll in the Woods,” with a lovely range of open-air baths that make it easy to relax day after day.

Snowy nature all around the hotel made for a beautiful setting. We had a private onsen room, which was an incredible experience, and the staff were friendly and polite. Dinner at the buffet was great too. I’d recommend it without hesitation.

We came back after seven years and were disappointed that the standards we remembered had slipped. Our first room had lots of insects and furniture damaged by water. The replacement room had insects in the bathroom as well, and there was dust building up in shared areas. The onsen is still good, but the facility overall felt poorly maintained and unhygienic. After this visit, we don’t see ourselves returning.

There’s no lunch or dinner option, so plan ahead if you’ll be staying all day. The room is very big, the onsen is good, and breakfast has a nice variety. We enjoyed our stay overall.
