We were there for just one night, and it was such a memorable stay. The food wasn't really to our taste, though I'd still say it's worth trying at least once. A great choice if you're hoping to get a feel for Zen and Buddhist culture.

I only booked one night and ended up wishing I'd stayed longer. The stay includes the room, meals, and Zen activities, so the price covers everything. The vegan food and dining experience might not suit everyone, but it was a good way to learn about Zen Buddhism, and I’d happily recommend it. I’m surprised more people haven’t heard of this place.
We planned on five nights, then decided to add five more. The staff were incredibly kind, and everything was impeccable 👌. The Shojin meals were delicious too. The morning services at the Temple start early, but they’re absolutely worth getting up for.
Staying for two nights was a highlight of our trip to Japan, and I’d gladly do it again. We came mainly to visit the Eiheiji Temple, and the hotel gave us a chance to join the service and zazen there. The hotel itself turned out to be far better than we expected, especially the meals. The rice porridge breakfasts were among the best meals we’ve ever had.
We were celebrating a special occasion, and the staff put real care into making it even more memorable. Our stay at Hakujukan was one of the best parts of our Japan trip, a lovely experience we won't forget.
