Hotel Meiko

We stayed with Orion Tours, and the spot right in front of the ski resort was great. The building is old, so it’s a little run down, but the food was good and the staff friendly. You can use the hot springs on checkout day for 300 yen, though you’ll need to bring your own bath towel. The apples I bought from the shop on the first floor were delicious, crisp, and full of honey.

I was at a nearby lodge, but its bath was so awful that I came here around 7 PM just for a soak. I wasn’t sure what the usual guest hours were, but they kindly let me in. It cost 500 yen, plus 300 yen to rent a bath towel, 800 yen total. There was hardly anyone in the bath, probably because of the hour. It’s small but clean, with an open-air bath. A blue mat was covering it to keep the water warm. I took it off before getting in, and the soak was incredibly refreshing. I’d like to stay here next time I visit Kita-Shiga Kogen. Thank you very much.

The location was great, with the slopes right in front of the hotel. I thought bath towels and yukatas were included based on the information I saw when booking, but they weren’t in the room. When I asked, I was told they weren’t part of my plan, and a bath towel would cost an extra 300 yen. I also found no tissues in the room. I don’t think there was a plan option when I made the reservation.

The man in the North Face hoodie was incredibly rude. He explained the WiFi and rooms to the girl, but gave the slightly flashy, outgoing guy no explanation at all. His manner was just awful. He ended up arguing with me and it nearly became a fight. I wish the place would go bust, or that the employee would quit.
