The food was the best part of my two-night stay. I've been to fancier ryokans that focus on food, but the meals at Jinpyokaku Honten suited my tastes even more. The seafood starters, shinsu beef, tsunomono, and local Yukoshiro Mai rice were all delicious and looked incredible. Staff were gracious and professional throughout. The room was surprisingly spacious for a solo traveler, and I really appreciated the private onsen attached to it. The location is ideal for Jigokudani Park and the snow monkeys, though otherwise it feels isolated. The building is old and poorly insulated, so I was cold most of the time unless I was in my futon or the onsen, and for about half an hour afterward. The bath area could also use a deeper clean. Shibu Onsen is nearby, but it's about a 30-minute walk away, and this hotel isn't part of it, so you can't use its public baths for the nine-bath crawl.

We stayed four nights for our honeymoon and were so glad we did. What stood out most was the care in the service. The staff went above and beyond, and you could see how much attention they put into every meal. Breakfast and dinner were private kaiseki experiences with fresh, locally sourced food, and they accommodated a pescatarian diet. Our suite had traditional styling, beautiful woodwork, and all the amenities we expected, along with fresh green tea, red bean buns, and coffee. We loved using the private onsen each day after hours of skiing at Shiga Kogen. The location was very convenient. You can walk straight to Snow Monkey Park and Shibu Onsen, and the bus stop for Shiga Kogen and Nagano is just five minutes away. I'd absolutely recommend Jinpyokaku, especially for a longer stay or a ski trip. Thank you for such a great stay!

The owner personally drove me to Shiga Kogen after heavy snow caused my taxi booking to fall through. He also printed the bus schedule and made sure I knew how to get back. That kind of help really stood out during an excellent two-night stay. The ryokan is near Snow Monkey Park, so it was easy to visit early before the crowds. Getting there from Nagano Station on the express bus was straightforward, and the area is quiet and peaceful. My room was clean and thoughtfully designed, with a tasteful private wooden bath. I also enjoyed the kaiseki meals and relaxing outdoor onsen. Service was genuinely among the best I've experienced. It's a well-priced, refined place, and I'd gladly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, authentic ryokan stay.

The staff were a real delight, helpful and thoughtful, and the food was a highlight. Dinner and breakfast included local beef cooked at the table and delicious vegetable dishes. Drinks are free too, which felt very civilised. My room was comfortable, stylish, and well maintained, and I loved having a private onsen. It's a charming old inn with a great atmosphere. I'd read online that Jinpyokaki had gone downhill after changing hands, but that wasn't my experience at all. I came for the fascinating snow monkeys, tourist crowds and all, but Jinpyokaki ended up being the real highlight. I'd love to return.

A traditional ryoken with an onsen, right by the snow monkey park. The rooms were warm and comfortable, and the onsen was relaxing. The whole place had a lovely feel to it. The people running it were so kind and helpful, and really made our stay better. Would absolutely recommend.
