Koishiya Ryokan

The town is wonderful, with kind people and beautiful views. Koishiya Ryokan is easy to reach, and our traditional room had tatami beds where I slept really well. The building is old and full of history, which gave it a charming feel. The host and staff were polite and helpful, and breakfast was great. There's also a Super Famicom with a great game selection. It seemed buggy at first, but restarting it a few times got it working. Thanks for the stay 🌈

The traditional rooms are spacious, comfortable, and well appointed, and the bathrooms are clean and easy to access. The restaurant serves tasty meals at fair prices. Staff were exceedingly polite and helpful, and the location is ideal for exploring the local onsens and the snow monkey park. Highly recommended!

We had a great time here. The town is small and cute, with plenty to do. The ryokan gives you access to the onsens, and we enjoyed visiting them and seeing the snow monkeys.

I haven't stayed here yet, but I wanted to mention how amazing one of the workers, Tomo, has been. I was trying to book from the USA and struggling with the website, so I called the hotel directly using an app. There seems to be a glitch with the English version, and Tomo is raising it with his manager. At first I was looking at Booking,com, where two nights through that site would have cost 70k yen. Tomo called me back after figuring out how I could get a cheaper rate through the Japan version of the hotel's site, where the availability was listed. He also made sure I used the early bird rate. Booking on the Japanese site is trickier, but he showed me how to use Safari's translation feature or Google Lens. For the personal details, I had to fiddle with a few things: translate my name to hiranga, add a 0 to my phone number, and enter 1234567 as the zip code since I don't have a Japanese one. I left my actual number in the comments. He was so helpful and kind, and went out of his way to help me find a better rate. I would have booked there either way, but I was really touched. Shout out to Tomo! I hope I get to meet him and thank him when I visit. If the stay is as great as the staff, I'm even more excited now.
