Ena Toutaro

Enna Toutaro sits in a quiet, relaxing spot at the edge of town. Emi drove us to and from the train station, which made things easy, and the short bus or train ride to the Magome-Tsumago section of the Nakasendo Trail makes it a good base. We stayed two nights and really enjoyed it. Emi and her sisters were so welcoming and helped with every question we had. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent, with different menus each day. Some of our favorite meals from our Japan trip were the carp in soy sauce and beef stew, and the local sake was top notch. We'd definitely recommend Enna Toutaro and hope to return soon.

Dinner was a delicious Japanese-style feast. The place is simple, but it has everything you need.

The room was spacious, comfortable, and clean, and after a long day climbing, we always looked forward to the baths. The meals were superb, whether we ate breakfast or dinner at the ryokan or went out. We loved the variety and that they accommodated our preference for more vegetables. My partner and I stayed six nights while visiting the area to climb at Kasagiyama. The staff were welcoming and helpful throughout, and by the end we felt like family. We also tried the zen meditation, which was refreshing. Having a car made it easy to do the Nakasendo walk from Tsumago to Magome. This was easily one of our favorite places we stayed in Japan, and we'd definitely come back. Highly recommend!

My father and I had one of the best ryokan experiences of our lives here. The ladies who own and run Toutaro were so friendly, and the service and both meals, breakfast and dinner, were perfect. In the afternoon, we had sake with Ami-san, Kaori-san, and some other guests, and we all did some "hanami" together. It was lovely. I'll definitely come back and can recommend this ryokan to anyone.
