Hotel Kimiyoshi

I chose a cheap detached room that someone had called a "haunted room" in an earlier review (lol). The walls were so thin that I could hear the girls in the next room breathing, and apparently my snoring woke them in the night. Next time, I'll avoid the detached rooms. The Japanese meal was good, especially the sashimi and chawanmushi, though the half-buffet seemed a bit skimpy. The rest felt about average for an Ito En hotel. I was surprised there was no water from the faucet in the bathhouse changing room. As I was leaving, another guest said the water in their room hadn't worked either. The station is apparently a 20-30 minute walk away, but if you call, they'll pick you up at the north exit in a minibus, even if you're on your own. They also drive guests back every 30 minutes from 9:00 to 11:30. I had a good impression overall, and there seemed to be quite a few solo guests on the weekday I stayed.

The food selection was disappointing. A limited-time dish had sold out and wasn't replenished, though we were about 20 minutes late, so that was partly on us. Other buffet items also went a long time without being refilled, and there was barely anything left. They only started bringing food out as we were about to leave. Stick closely to the meal times. We stayed in the cheapest cottage on a Sunday night during a motorcycle trip. It didn't feel particularly cheap, but aside from the bugs, it was clean and comfortable. Since it was late May, insects were getting in, and the drain flies in the bathroom were especially disgusting (crying). I understand bugs can get into a cottage, but I wish they'd do something about it. It's good value for money, so I'd consider going back.

The creative Japanese set meal was delicious, and the buffet was decent, with lots of homemade items. I also enjoyed the spacious, clean karaoke room. My room was roomy too, and its new TV and air conditioning made it comfortable. I'd like to try a detached room next time since they aren't much more expensive. I booked the standard plan on a weekday. It costs a bit more than I'd expect from Itoen, but staying in a former luxury hotel at this rate is a nice opportunity. The bath and the surrounding Kofu area are ordinary, so the location isn't a strong point. I was very satisfied, though I think that depends on the price. The official website is the cheapest place to book. The Shingen Mochi theme park is nearby, but getting a number for the all-you-can-fill-a-bag event is popular and time-sensitive.

We spent the New Year here for our annual family getaway, and my grandchildren seemed comfortable. The room was clean, and the warmth from the hallway to the entrance kept out the winter chill. Smokers will appreciate the indoor smoking area. This was our second stay. We'll be back next year.
