We'd love to stay again. The staff were so kind and attentive, and they even made an effort to speak with us in English. Our room was spacious and clean, with a lovely view of the inner garden. Dinner and breakfast were incredibly tasty, and the clean spa facilities were relaxing. The treats and amenities they provided added to the luxurious feel.

The place is a little old, but it's clean and well put together, with a retro feel we really enjoyed. The sauna is new and rejuvenating, and we'd definitely come back. We had a wonderful time enjoying the Japanese garden and onsen. The higher tier rooms are worth considering if you can. I think ours was Fuefuki? Fuefuki. From the room, we could get to the Japanese garden and koi pond, enjoy a beautiful mountain view at breakfast, and wear the cuter yukata. Sakura season is a lovely time to visit, with pleasant weather and flowers blooming near Isawa onsen station.

The hot spring was roomy and relaxing, and the temperature felt just right. I had a wonderful stay at Koshien Ryokan in Isawa. Its retro atmosphere is charming, and the staff made us feel warmly welcome. A perfect little escape to unwind physically and mentally.

A lovely ryokan in the town of Yamamashi, with gardens that are very peaceful to walk around. Our large bedroom was divided by shōji and had its own exit to the pond area shown in the photos. Room service is available, and you can book a private hot tub and sauna session in one of the alcove rooms. We came by car, and it felt like a great place to spend a few days away from busy cities.

The grounds are beautiful, and all the rooms get to enjoy the view. The onsen and food were spectacular too. It's a very nice, traditional hotel stay. The only challenge was that the staff spoke limited English and we didn't know Japanese, but Google Translate helped us get by.
