The Fuji view was incredible, and the staff were so impressive. The place was spotless, honestly the cleanest hotel I’ve stayed in. It was my first time at a traditional ryokan and I loved it. There’s also a nearby late-night snack place that’s tasty and affordable. The shared bathroom felt a little too cold for me, but everything else was perfect. I’d happily stay again if I come back to Fuji.

We booked a private room and bathroom, and it worked out perfectly even though we’re not hostel people. We stayed four nights and loved each one. The place was quiet, spacious, and spotless, with great shared facilities, laundry, a huge well-equipped kitchen, and a cozy dining and hangout area. The staff, mostly long-term volunteers, did a great job. It’s a lovely concept and the location is convenient, about five minutes from the lake and a 15-minute walk to the station. We’d gladly return. Thanks for a great stay!

That short walk between the station and Kawaguchiko lake was easy enough for me, and the street itself was quiet. I also really appreciated the area map and the list of convenience stores and recommended restaurants at check-in. Researching where to eat is my least favorite part of traveling, and the places I tried from their list were good. I rented one of their bikes from 8:30am to 5pm for ¥1500, which felt like a bargain, and it let me see much more of the area than walking or taking public transport would have. The kitchen was one of the best hostel kitchens I’ve seen, with everything I needed and kept very clean and organized. Staff and guests were welcoming, and compared with the capsule hostels I’ve stayed in around Japan, this felt like home. A couple of small things: the shared unisex showers occasionally smelled strongly of body odor. I know that isn’t entirely the hostel’s fault. Also, the lower bunks aren’t great for tall people. I’m a 5'10 woman and bumped my head, so you might want to request an upper bunk. The beds were still really comfortable and I slept like I was back home. I’d definitely recommend the place. The photos are from just around the corner from the hotel.

The dorm room heater kept the temperature just right, and I slept well over my three nights. There’s a large kitchen and sitting area, too. It’s a quiet neighborhood, around a 15 to 20-minute walk from Kawaguchiko station. Buses aren’t very frequent, and I usually waited 20 to 30 minutes. I’d recommend this hostel to solo travelers.

The common room and kitchen are very spacious. Showers are clean and have hair and body products, but there are only two per floor, so during busy periods, especially peak season, not everyone may get a chance to use one. The toilets are clean enough, though the men’s toilet seems to have a constant pee smell. The beds are okay and have a nice thick blanket. You make the bed yourself, so keep that in mind in a shared bunk room. The bunks are stable and don’t make much noise, but setting up your bed while other people are trying to sleep isn’t ideal. There are no curtains, and instead of a duvet cover there’s a second mattress sheet, so you sleep between two sheets with the blanket on top. That may put off travelers with higher hygiene standards.
