At around 4000 Yen a night, we felt we couldn't have been in better hands. Modern hotels nearby can cost up to 20000 Yen a night during climbing season, and I don't think they'd offer the kind of care we got at the Fugakuso Tourist House. Five stars, and I plan to return soon. My cousin and I arrived just after 10 PM in June 2010, the day before the official Fuji climbing season began. We had no reservation and hadn't called, yet the host got out of bed, possibly literally given how undressed he was, and hurried down to welcome us. The traditional Japanese lodging has few modern comforts like climate control or big beds, but that didn't matter. The host looked after us so well for the night, even drawing a bath and pointing us to nearby restaurants still open. His cook had already left, otherwise they would have made us a meal there. In the morning he noticed my cousin's sprained ankle was bothering him and offered to drive us to the train station. He wouldn't take any money for the ride. We had such a wonderful time there.

The owners were very kind, and it was a very basic minkan stay with a traditional Japanese feel. It was a festival weekend, so the price had gone up for what the accommodation offered. With the noise and well-worn interior, it didn't feel worth that rate. At the right price, though, I'd recommend it for a traditional experience.

The owner was super friendly and picked us up at the train station. The lake is close by, though walking there takes about 35 minutes. You can also take a sightseeing bus, with the stop roughly a 7-minute walk from the property.

The views were awesome and the location was great. The owner was very friendly and did everything he could to make our stay pleasant.

Really appreciated the service, the people, and how helpful they were. (^∇^)
