Fujisawa Hotel En

The breakfast was the best I’ve had so far. There isn’t a big selection, but the chef is right there, and the food shows real care in both quality and creativity. The staff were super friendly and helpful, making my two-day stay a pleasure. They even had tableware for children, which was thoughtful. It’s about an easy 10-minute walk from Fujisawa station and makes a god spot for exploring Kamakura or the Hakone region. I can only speak highly of the place, especially for the value.

It was an acceptable value overall, though there are better options around. The room was small and clean, except the tiled entry was sticky. There’s no clock, and I couldn’t cast video to the TV. There were plenty of outlets, eight in all, but no closet or dresser, just four hangers on a 30-inch wall rod. The small fridge barely cooled even on its highest setting. With heavy luggage, be prepared for a few big steps. There’s also a less obvious ramp beside the main entrance that leads down to the basement, where an elevator takes you and your bags to the front desk. There’s no shop or vending machine inside, though one machine is across the street. Bottled water at reception costs 200 yen, about 70 yen more than at vending machines. Dining means walking 10-15 minutes into Fujisawa proper, and there’s a nice walking and jogging trail along the river.

The room was large and the location fine, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It’s a shame that the plumbing smelled so awful. A disgusting sewer odor came from the bathroom all day and night, so we had to leave the fans on and open every window. It was bad enough to make me feel nauseous. The room was also really hot, with no air conditioning.

The bathroom was fantastic, with double sinks, a separate glassed-in bath area, a shower with several settings like rain and massage, and a great bath. After lots of walking during the day, I spent quite a bit of time in there. The room was big and impressive, too, and the hotel staff were very friendly. It’s a pleasant walk from the station through a quiet local neighborhood with a supermarket and shops. Stay here for the bathroom, and don’t miss the electric railway and the mono rail to Ofuna.
