There’s no station office, staff, or gate at this stop, just a platform to get off onto. The mini-bar also works as a souvenir shop, with regional books, clothes, and towels. Its sake selection is a must try, and cheaper than the coffee. Resort Shirakami is the best way to get here, though good luck finding a seat in summer. You need a reserved seat, but you can still find a safe place to stand and watch the scenery outside, so we weren’t all disappointed when we missed out on ocean-view seats. We collected the train stamps as a nice keepsake.

This is a really nice station, and you can switch here to the shuttle for Furofushi Onsen.

I got off here to take the shuttle bus to Furōfushi Onsen. It’s an unmanned station, but there’s a souvenir shop right out front selling things from Fukaura town. This is the gateway to the hot spring.

By itself, this is a quiet, empty station beside the sea. I wouldn’t have gotten off here if I weren’t heading to Furofushi Onsen, which provided a shuttle so I could catch the Gono Line. There’s a castle-like rest area right next to the deserted platform, which helps it feel less desolate.
