Set near a park on a hillside, this ryokan has clean Japanese-style rooms with enough space. The food is home-cooked, and the owners are hospitable. They enjoy talking with you and sharing information about the town and its history. I had a good time chatting with them, and the price is reasonable, so it seems suitable for business travelers too.

I booked a place to stay in Fukui without knowing much about what to expect, so I was glad the owner and landlady suggested so many places to eat and visit nearby. Their warm personalities and welcoming spirit made the inn feel special, and the room had a lovely atmosphere at a very reasonable price. I could tell they wanted guests to enjoy Fukui and discover what makes it appealing. The kindness at Kawajin Ryokan and the delicious food at the restaurants they recommended completely changed how I think about Fukui. I'm really glad I stayed, and if I return someday, I'd definitely stay here again. Thank you so much.

On both solo visits I chose the breakfast-only plan. The food was carefully made and mild in flavor. I stayed twice because the price is reasonable and the hosts are friendly, so I understand the high ratings. The inn is at the foot of Mt. Asuwayama, walkable from Fukui Station, and the unusual tram is fun to ride. On my first trip I visited my grandparents' graves at Asuwayama Cemetery and walked around Asuwayama Park. The second time I used a one-night pass while touring Hokuriku, starting in Fukui Prefecture and seeing places in Toyama and Ishikawa Prefectures. Dinner is available, but there are also local specialties near the station or in Katamachi, plus good prepared food at Fukui supermarkets. At breakfast the host started chatting while I still had food in my mouth, which kept me from getting on with my meal. It might not suit everyone, though the sightseeing tips were useful and I wound up sharing some silly memories. The small tatami room, home-style cooking, and the couple's friendly hospitality made me feel comfortable.
