Sunline Fukuoka Hakata Ekimae

I always stay at APA when I’m in Japan, and this visit made me even more sure of that. I’d accidentally booked a smoking room without checking the policy, and as a non-smoker, I found the smell really disturbing. I explained the problem that morning to three women at the front desk. Even though it was my mistake, they managed to move me to a non-smoking room. I’m so grateful. I couldn’t enjoy my time in Fukuoka in the smoking room, and their kindness made a huge difference. Thank you for hiring such accommodating staff. Just be aware that smoking is allowed on some floors.

A typical APA, though the rooms have just a little more space than the APA hotels in Tokyo. Hakata Station is a short walk away.

The rooms are compact, but clean and stocked with toiletries. Staff were friendly and accommodating. There’s a shared area with a microwave and ice machine, plus a vending machine for cold drinks and a laundry area. The location is excellent, near Hakata Station, yodabashi, and a bus stop. Canal City and Don qui are a few km away if you want to get your steps in. The one thing I didn’t like was the cigarette smell in the elevator. We don’t smoke, so it bothered me. Still, we had a wonderful stay and I’d book here again if I get the chance to return to Fukuoka 🫶🏼

We booked four nights but checked out after the first because the room felt impossibly tight for two people. They say it’s about 10 sqmeter, but it seemed more like 6 or 7 sqmeter, with hardly any room to move. The big wall-mounted TV was so close to the bed that I worried my eyes would burn out, and the air conditioner was right there blowing directly on us, making it hard to get comfortable. We spent the night thinking about how bad the room was, then moved to another hotel with a 15 sqmeter room. The relief felt like getting out of jail, seriously. I wouldn’t recommend this APA to anyone sharing a room. Even alone, I’d look for somewhere bigger than 15 sqmeter.
