The Luigans Spa and Resort

The best part for me was the onsen. It was quiet and not crowded, likely because of the season, with plenty of room in the bathing area and changing rooms. I enjoyed it several times, though one night I arrived at 10:25 PM and found it already closed despite the posted closing time of 11 PM. The larger rooms were quite nice too, though I may have heard pigeons on the roof. The bed was comfortable. I booked three nights in early June, and the hotel seemed old overall, with somewhat dated rooms. Since June isn't considered summer yet, the pool and grounds didn't look trimmed or cleaned up for the summer crowds. It felt more like a hotel for families and events, and I got the impression foreign visitors might not be their preferred guests. Staff were attentive to everyone, but seemed more active with Japanese guests. The train is a five-minute walk away, and the beach park is close, but it closes at 5, so don't expect to stay for sunset. The restaurants looked nice but were quite expensive. Room service was available, though I didn't try it. I was disappointed there was no coffee or tea for guests in the lobby and no downstairs place to relax. I understand that may not be the resort's style. One other thing: the outdoor smoking area is about 15 feet to the right of the main entrance, right between the hotel exit and the route people take to their cars. That seems to put smokers in conflict with kids and families walking through. Other guests gave me dirty looks even though I was in the designated spot. I think both smoking and non-smoking guests would prefer it somewhere else. Take the good with the bad.
