The358 UMI

I was pleased to book because the hotel was new, but after more than four nights here with my family, I regret it. The bed’s white sheets were dirty, and there’s no laundry room, so I didn’t know what to do with our dirty clothes. The front desk staff seemed a bit rude, as though they weren’t used to seeing a foreigner. Breakfast was good, but there didn’t seem to be enough food for families with children who get up late. The first-floor dining room is fully equipped, yet you have to pay extra for service drinks. Even the hot water barely runs. It feels like they want to offer good service, but the stay isn’t comfortable. I wanted to cancel the rest of my stay. There’s no water dispenser outside the onsen, and the windows don’t offer a great view.

The room was clean and big, and the onsen was spacious and great. They gave out free face masks at check-in, though I’m not sure why staff later took them away and wouldn’t let me get another one. The facilities and surroundings deserve five stars. My pillow was too flat and didn’t support me well. Service was a bit below average too. When I asked for two more pillows, I heard a staff member quietly whisper to himself after I picked them up. I guessed he wasn’t happy with my request, though I don’t know why. It made for an unpleasant experience.

The family room was huge, with very comfortable beds and a clean interior. We came hoping for a relaxed stay outside the city, and enjoyed it. There’s ample parking right in front, plus some malls beside the hotel that we didn’t get to visit. The public bath was a welcome feature. The smoking area is uncovered, though, so smokers have to face the weather. I was freezing up there having a puff in the strong sea wind. Getting here by public transport may be troublesome if you’re not driving, so keep that in mind.

Breakfast was good with plenty of variety, and the price seemed reasonable. The hotel is fairly new, with rooms that feel like three-star standard. The bathroom was clean, the room temperature control worked well, and complimentary water was provided. The TV connects to the internet for YouTube and Netflix. There’s also an onsen, and the view looks over the pier and passing traffic.
