The onsen itself was decent, and without the loud talking and laughter from some Korean and PRC Chinese guests ignoring the signs, it would have been peaceful to soak. My room had air conditioning problems for most of my stay, though an intern did arrange a portable fan. When I asked to move rooms, the lady hotel manager seemed impatient and unfriendly. The room and bathroom felt very old. The desk was worn, the bidet seat wasn’t heated, and the walls did little to block sound. Sudden loud bangs woke me on several nights. The hotel is around a 10-minute walk from Hakata station, so not especially far, but not as close as some reviews suggest. Lawson and Family mart are nearer. Most managers and staff speak only Japanese, though some junior interns at the front desk speak English. I’m left with mixed feelings because the stay only just met a reasonable standard, and management should improve its customer service, especially that of the lady manager.

There’s a washing machine on every floor, which is handy. I found the hot spring relaxing, and it has a sauna too. The room was roomy enough that you could get out of the bed on either side. For a budget traveler like me, it’s a good place to stay for a few days.

I liked the breakfast, and the onsen and available washing machines are useful perks. Hakata station is nearby. But this is a business hotel, so it doesn’t feel family friendly, and early check-in costs extra. I had a bad interaction with reception staff Hdamichi. The foreign trainee shadowing her communicated much better, and Hdamichi’s combative manner could have used a little omotenashi. The trainee even offered my child Pokémon slippers, a small, endearing human touch.

I regret booking here. If you’re not local, I’d stay somewhere else. The reception’s attitude when you don’t speak Japanese was astonishing, and I got nowhere with them. It felt like an intensely inflexible experience, with a stubbornness people often joke about. It left me feeling that tourists aren’t welcome here, despite how much Japan depends on tourism.

The onsen is large and lovely, and I especially liked the cold bath. It’s open to the public, though it was packed each night when I went, usually around 10 pm. The hotel is about a five-minute walk from Hakata Station, a useful JR and Kyushu train hub for day trips to Kumamoto, Beppu, Saga, and Nagasaki. Canal City and other nice spots are around 10-15 minutes away on foot. The staff at reception were friendly and helpful. My room was spacious, the AC worked well, and I liked the firm bed. There are only three laundry machines for a hotel with so many rooms. The bathroom feels dated, and you need to shut the door during a hot shower or the fire alarm may go off.
