Area Inn Fushimicho Fukuyama Castle Side 2 8 Host

I only booked two nights in the four-person women’s dorm, and my one regret is not staying longer. The beds are first come, first served, but all of them are spacious. The place felt surprisingly clean and cozy, with a roomy shower and toilet area and a large sink. Before check-in I left my luggage at the cafe. When I returned later, a staff member carried my suitcase all the way upstairs to the dorm in a different building, less than a minute away. The location is excellent, right outside the train station and bus terminal. Some nearby restaurants and cafes offer a 10% discount, too. I’d definitely recommend this for solo women travelers and hope to stay again when I visit Fukuyama.

The place is just steps from the main station and everything you need. The staff are welcoming, and following their Instagram gets you a free drink. The men’s dorm is a few blocks away from the building with the front desk, so keep that in mind. The bed was comfortable, and the ventilation kept the air feeling fresh. The cleaning seemed good except for a few spots, as shown in the pictures.

Never again. Check-in was excruciating, and there seemed to be nobody responsible. There’s no phone service. One evening the fire alarm went off and everyone rushed downstairs. We could have stood there all night if another guest hadn’t taken charge. Their messages are just commands, with no greeting, thanks, or please, and you have to ask for the Wi-Fi password. The room had dust and fluff on the bedhead, no amenities, and the cheapest soap. The area by the train tracks was very uninspiring.

Check-in was welcoming, and they shared a map of suggested places in the neighborhood. The room was quiet, and the location was great. I’d definitely stay again.
