Quintessa Hotel Chiba Funabashi

The bathroom smelled bad, maybe because there's no ventilation or someone smoked in there before. I had to buy an air freshener just to manage it. The staff are nice, the service is pretty good, and the available amenities make the place convenient. There's a 711 right beside it, and Funabashi station and keisei Funabashi station are both a 10-minute walk away.

The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from JR station Funabashi and 9 minutes from the private railway's Keisei Funabashi station. It's around 25 km from Tokyo Station, though, which is the main drawback if you want to be near the city centre. From Funabashi, you can take a direct JR train to Tokyo Station in about 25 minutes, or transfer to Tokyo Metro at Nishi-Funabashi and get off around Nihombashi. The Metro trip can take up to twice as long, but it's a lot cheaper for tourists with a Tokyo Subway Pass. If you'll be shopping a lot, staying this far away also means you can't drop things off or take a break between outings like you could at a hotel nearer the centre. The building itself is a bit old, but the hotel seems to have been recently renovated, and everything in my room felt nice, clean, and in top condition. Even the single room had a fairly large smart TV. The bedroom was small, but I could still lay out my medium-sized luggage, and the bed was fairly large for one person. The private bathroom was clean, and the toilet had the usual Japanese features, including an automatic flush and bidet. The staff were very friendly and helpful, with a high level of hospitality. Check-in was smooth, although there was a fee for checking in early, which I did.

It's quite small, and Tokyo is about an hour away by train, so it's not very close. Just okay, neither bad nor great.

It was far from the main station when I visited, but I think that goes with how cheap it is.
