The manager speaks very good English, though he seems to be under stress and the place looks understaffed. The smell made me feel like I’d been sent to a hospital. Maybe that could be made part of a theme, like a haunted castle in Scotland or a prison hotel. There are two unusual rules: luggage wheels aren’t allowed to touch the floor, and there’s no rubbish bin in the room. You need to be reasonably fit to stay here. Given the circumstances, the place is well managed, and for me a room in Furano here was good value.

We had a great time here, and the rooms are really nice and well equipped. The shopkeeper has lots of rules, but following them shouldn’t cause any problems. There’s even an elevator inside. Rooms are cheap for a place close to everything, though you need to book about half a year ahead.

The manager was kind and helpful all week, and the rules were clearly posted before you enter and explained well. We had a great stay at the Alpine guesthouse and would come back. I think the negative comments about it are misleading and inaccurate. Our room had a good heater, and the shared areas were clean and reasonably well equipped. It’s a good price for the area, with an easy walk to the ski slopes and a convenience store five minutes down the road. There’s an epic onsen across the road at Edel Warme for 500 yen. Furano’s main town is a 20-30 minute walk, though there are some good local bars and restaurants within five minutes. Get there early, around 5:30 pm, to avoid long waits. As long as you respect the rules, it’s a well-priced, well-located and well-equipped place I’d recommend. Thanks for the stay :)

Our room was spacious, with two separate beds. The toilet was in the room with a sink, though it had only a curtain and no door. The clean shower downstairs had plenty of hot water. There are five restaurants nearby, and the closest convenience store is a ten-minute walk away. It’s in the Furano city area.

The desk manager got furious and yelled at us for rolling our luggage over the carpet by the front door, repeating, “In Japan we don't do that! This is guesthouse!” I apologized, but said he didn’t need to be so fierce, as if he were going to fight us. In the end, he told us to leave and said, “please leave, I refund you”.
