Chalet Burlap Furanui

I visited in summer and thought it was amazing value. The slopes are very close, and there's a Lawson nearby. Breakfast is available, and they have tea and coffee too. The free onsen was the highlight for me. There's also a washing machine and dryers. The staff were really nice and helpful.

The accommodation was excellent, though a little tight. The on-site onsen was the best part.

The lodge was nice for the price, and I really can't think of many complaints. It's not luxurious, but we were comfortable and never had the cold rooms I've encountered at some other Japanese lodgings, even with the heat on. The gondola is a short walk away. Staff spoke English fairly well, which is unusual in my experience, and the included train station ride was much appreciated. In the afternoon they even offered complimentary juice and spirits. I'm unsure about skiing in Furano again without a car. People recommend it as a ski resort in a more “real” town, and the town does seem like it would be there even without the resort. But public transport is awful, and as far as I know hotels in the town center don't shuttle to the lifts. For skiing, you stay in the tourist and hotel area by the gondola where Chalet Burlap is, or by the other gondola. That area has its own charm, but without a car you're kind of stuck there, with poor connections to town. Dining choices around the hotels are limited, so I'd book ahead or go early. Walk-in places sell out. Unlike in many countries, you can't count on getting into most casual restaurants at 8 or 9 pm. It was a weeknight and we ended up having dinner at Lawson because we'd run out of options.

The rooms were clean, the customer service was great, and the slopes are within walking distance.
