Dinner was the best part: a fresh, really tasty meal with a great starter Bento and plenty of buffet choices, though the selection was limited because of covid. Breakfast had much less on offer. My wife and I liked the breakfast Bento, but it didn’t appeal much to our four- and six-year-old girls. The hotel is about 20 years old, and the age shows in the lobby carpets, wallpaper, furniture, and room bathrooms. The rooms are spacious but dated. Some tatami mats are worn enough to flex and sink in places. Still, the futons laid out during dinner service were clean and very comfortable, and sleeping on tatami felt great. The onsen is small, but the island view is magical, and the open-air bath was a treat. It’s an older place, but the bed, food, view, and chance to relax are all good where it counts.

I used the hotel just for a day visit to the hot spring. It’s right by the sea, and the bathroom has a nice view of Takeshima island. Towels are provided for free, but you need to return them after use. Shampoo, body soap, and hair dryers are set out at each spot.

We had excellent food and a fantastic view, and the house was very accommodating. Our limited Japanese made some moments a bit intimidating, but we managed. Not having wifi in the rooms is always rough for my internet-addicted brain.

Tokiwa is a nice, quiet restaurant at the hotel. It serves washoku, traditional Japanese food, with lots of small dishes arriving one after another, each with different appearances and flavors.

The building is showing its age, but it’s still in very good shape. The hotel is clean, and the staff are helpful.
