We got an amazing price, perhaps because of the time of year. The hotel is right by the Nagara River, next door to the stadium and convention center, and fairly close to Gifu Park. It’s a fantastic luxury hotel, but far from the train station, so you’ll need a taxi or bus. After the bus, it’s about an 8-minute walk. I’d send luggage ahead, since Gifu buses are a little small and tend to stop running early in the evening. Staff speak some English, which seems understandable for a place like Gifu that doesn’t get many tourists. I’d rate it 9.5/10. Better public transport access would have made it a 10.

The hotel itself is very nice, but we felt treated like second-class guests because we were traveling with a tour group. We were excited to use the pool, then found out there was a charge of nearly 2,500 yen per person for our group. What a way to upset guests. We didn’t spend any money at the hotel, and I’ll suggest that the tour group choose somewhere else in the future.

I have no complaints about the hotel itself, but be aware of the no-tattoo policy if you’re planning to use the lovely pool, relaxation area, or fitness club. With tattoos, your options are to skip it or rent a full-body swimsuit or patches. I chose not to use the facilities. I understand the rule, but they could advertise it more clearly.

The area is quiet, and the room is spacious with lots of amenities. There are some shops for passing the time, and it’s about 15 minutes from Gifu station, which makes for a tranquil stay. The bathroom is huge too, and the Miyako hotels group has a great variety of restaurants.

Best hotel of my trip, and the cheapest too. Everything was great: huge rooms, excellent service, a beautiful lobby, easy parking at ¥1,000 per night, and a nice breakfast.
