There’s plenty to keep the whole family busy here, from bouldering and swimming to seasonal activities. Our room was clean, though I didn’t see any WiFi. There’s a bathroom, but the main draw is the Onsen spas. We ate at the main restaurant, where you’ll probably need a reservation. The food was great and there were lots of drinks to choose from. Meat dishes made up most of the menu, with only a few vegetarian choices, so ask ahead if you need to know what’s available.

They’ve done remodeling work recently, and the place is really getting better. It still has more character than the newer hotels around here, and the on-site food is good. There’s also a micro-brewery making beer that’s good for Japan. For what you pay, this is the best value hotel in the area.

I live nearby, so I’ve been able to visit a lot of the national heritage sites around here, and this hotel is conveniently placed for them. It’s an affordable base if you want to fit more into your time. It’s part of Kogen Biru, which has several restaurants serving local food as well as Japanese-style international dishes.

It has a quaint, modest feel and keeps its original character. The sauna and baths are old-style, and there’s a lovely evening light display. Breakfast was superb, with views of Fuji san. Just don’t come expecting Swiss-style luxury or American extravagance.

A good spot for office parties. The auditoriums are cool, and there are onsens and other facilities too. I think it’s known for having some of the best drinks. The toiletries were superb.
