During Obon, I found it useful that the shop on site rents both cars and electric bikes, so I could drop them off and go straight to the lodging. The ferry port is close, with a supermarket and drugstore nearby, and the place has a bathroom, toilet, loungewear, and basic amenities. Obon bookings for rooms and rental cars can fill up fast, so reserve well ahead.

I used one of the guesthouse's rental cars and liked being able to go straight back to my room after returning it. Fukue Port is only about a three-minute walk away, and a big drugstore across the street makes shopping easy. The room had futons instead of beds, but it was clean and had its own bathroom and toilet, so I was comfortable. The receptionist was cheerful and kind, which left me with a good impression. I'd stay again.

Fukue Island gave me plenty of good memories, but this left a sour one. The inn was close to the port, with a large supermarket right outside, and having a bath was useful since there aren't public baths nearby. The day before the marathon, I checked that I could leave my luggage after checkout. In the morning, when I asked, a man in the back muttered “450 yen,” and I paid it. I was surprised and said I'd never been charged for luggage storage after checkout at any of the many places I'd stayed. He replied under his breath, “Well, I have insurance.” The man I'd spoken with the previous day also seemed surprised and gave a wry smile. I didn't have time to read the insurance terms, so I left them for him to check, lol. I don't think it's right to add a fee after the fact. In that moment, I felt I had no choice but to pay the 1,000 yen.

There’s a unit bath in the room, and town is an easy walk from this spot beside Fukue Port. A drugstore and supermarket are next to the inn, which is handy. It’s upstairs on the second floor of a rental car shop, and you enter through the shop’s back door. The entrance has a rider’s house feel. It’s one of the island’s cheaper places, though motorcycle parking costs 500 yen. It may have been a boarding house once. It brought Rider's House Pago in Hakodate to mind.
