Shima Yamaguchi Kan

The baths are the main draw here, and the water is absolutely fantastic. It has a retro feel and the building is older, but that didn’t bother me. The staff were great, our room was clean, and the food was really good. An onsen lover’s paradise.

We loved our stay. Everything was really nice, and the baths were clean and beautiful!

The outdoor bath looks out over the river, so you can take in the scenery while soaking. Our room also faced the river and hillside, and the view was beautiful. The baths indoors and beside the outdoor one were lukewarm, and not many people seemed to use them. We didn’t have a meal plan with Yamaguchikan, but there are good restaurants by the public parking area. Quite a few seem to close on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so check what’s open before heading out. Parking is valet. We let them know we’d need the car for dinner, and they left it on the street where it was easy to get to. The inn sits right by the river in the mountains. The staff and service were good, and I’d highly recommend it.

I slept deeply, thanks in part to the air conditioning, which worked very well. The staff were friendly and helpful too. The open-air onsen was the highlight, with a magnificent river view and a really relaxing place to unwind. The hotel is long-established and shows some wear. Finding power outlets was tricky. Dinner tasted good, though some of the vegetables seemed a little stale.
