Shin Appi Onsen Seiryukaku

The spring is described as a very mineral-rich, strongly salty hot spring that comes from ancient seawater. It’s said to help retain heat and moisturize, and after bathing you can enjoy a comfortable sweat while everyday fatigue seems to melt away. The hot spring-steamed dishes are said to taste especially good afterward. The water contains an unusually high amount of metaboric acid, which is useful for wound healing and sterilizing. At 5,467 mg per kilogram, the metaboric acid level is about 1,100 times the standard value for hot springs, along with the spring’s high levels of minerals, salts, and other dissolved substances.

This was a horror of a hotel. My single room felt like a cell, with an iron door, and the place smelled bad. The staff were very rude and unfriendly. I booked two nights, but was glad I woke up early so I could leave as soon as possible. Even at 60 US dollars a night, I wouldn’t go here. They really dislike foreigners, and there’s absolutely nothing around. A place to avoid!

The Onsen is well known here, but what impressed me most was how thoughtful the hospitality was in every way. The room we stayed in was great, and both dinner and breakfast were awesome. I’d give more than five stars if I could.
