Family Lodge Hatagoya Hakodate

The room was quiet, spacious, very clean, and comfortable, with the toilet and bathroom separate. Fresh rolls and coffee in the morning made for a good start to the day.

I spent two nights here on my first Hakodate trip. It costs considerably less than the hotels around the station, and the interior was extremely clean. You do need to bring your own pajamas and toothbrush, but that wasn’t a problem for me. The tram stop is a 7-8 minute walk, which is fine unless it’s raining. If you have a rental car, I highly recommend it. Checking out is easy too, just return the key at reception without having to ask.

We travel around the country with our two large dogs and stayed at the Hakodate branch at the end of our Hokkaido trip. We’re grateful to these inns. The manager was very nice, and the rooms were clean. It was handy for walks, with convenience stores, conveyor belt sushi places, restaurants, and tourist spots nearby. The parking lot was spacious, and the hair dryers were more powerful.

I arrived in the evening after taking the ferry from Aomori. The neighborhood is mostly residential and away from the main roads, so it’s very quiet. The facilities feel fairly new, and the layout is consistent, like a traditional Japanese inn, which I found reassuring.
