The location was superb, and free parking was a big help. The building was old but well maintained, perfectly fine for someone not after luxury. I was very grateful to get a spacious triple room to myself at such a low price. I only had a rushed stay this time and left before 6 AM, but I’d like to come back and relax properly. At night, the dim 4th-floor lounge was a lovely place to sip coffee and enjoy the city view. I stayed in October 2021. Postscript, January 2022: it seems the hotel closed at the end of October 2021. I hope the COVID-19 situation settles so it can reopen.

I stayed one night and was very satisfied, even though the visit was short. The 4th-floor lounge was relaxing, with a great view that I hadn’t experienced at other hotels. The shampoo seemed nicer than the usual hotel kind, which pleasantly surprised me. The location made it easy to reach Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse, Hakodateyama Ropeway, and the churches; Lucky Pierrot and Hasegawa Store were nearby too, so finding food was easy. I arrived about 15 minutes before check-in but was allowed into my room. When I mentioned I planned to climb Mount Hakodate, the staff looked up detailed bus information for the summit because the ropeway was out of service due to a power outage. There was no air conditioning, but in late September it was cool with the window open and I didn’t need it. I’d stay here again if I visit Hakodate.

On my fifth trip to Hakodate, I stayed in Motomachi instead of my usual hotels near the station and was glad to find the neighborhood’s tucked-away restaurants and coffee shops. The location is excellent for walking to Motomachi, the Bay Area, and Hakodate Park. There aren’t convenience stores nearby, but Hasegawa Store, known for its yakitori bento, Coop Store, and Rappi (Lucky Pierrot) are all walkable. My room was small but comfortable, with a very comfortable bed and a deep tub for a good soak. The toilet didn’t have a washlet, though there was one on the fourth floor. That floor also had a lounge with a great view, and I appreciated the free morning coffee and tea. Housekeeping was excellent, with my room cleaned every day of my three-night stay. I’ll definitely come back.

The staff seemed to handle the front desk as well as the restaurant and bar on the fourth floor themselves. I had to use the intercom to check in, but their customer service was excellent. The location was perfect, and the price was so low, including parking, that I almost felt bad staying there. I’d only stayed in budget guesthouses in Hakodate before, but booked this one with a Rakuten Card discount. I come to Hokkaido every year, and after two years away, my first visit back to Hakodate was especially good, including the tourist spots I saw for the first time. I think I’ll stay here again next year. Thanks for taking care of me.

The front desk staff were very helpful, and I had no problems during my stay. The building and facilities look old but are well maintained. It faces the popular Hachiman-zaka and gives easy access to other sights around Motomachi, though getting to Hakodate Morning Market is somewhat inconvenient. I didn’t eat at the hotel, so I can’t comment on the food.
