Hotel Resol Hakodate

The room was spotless, though a little tight for three, and the decor felt a bit dated. The lobby lounge was lovely, open from 0600 to 2200 with complimentary coffee, tea, and soft drinks. Breakfast had a great selection and was an excellent start to the day. Hotel Resol Hakodate is also well placed for exploring Hakodate. What really made the stay was the reception team. I had a stressful problem with a separate booking, and Endo and Akasaka were professional, kind, and empathetic while helping me with something unrelated to their hotel. Their help turned what could have been a travel headache into a good memory. I’d recommend staying here, especially for the front desk staff.

The room was small and old, with dated decor, but the hotel is very close to the market and station, and there’s a tram stop across the street. The standard was just so-so, and I’d choose another hotel next time I’m in Hakodate. There’s no air conditioning in autumn or winter. We thought the AC wasn’t working, but the front desk explained that the heater won’t run if the room is warmer than outside. They suggested opening the window or renting us a fan.

Honestly, this was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in, and I’d never go back. The bathroom was yellowed and stained, with mold in spots, and even the sink looked decades old, with separate hot and cold knobs. An older man with a full head of gray hair couldn’t manage even a simple conversation in English. He and a younger female staff member seemed too busy giggling together to notice the guests’ expressions.

The location is handy, close to the JR station and city tram stop. The male staff member with grey hair spoke English very well and was helpful with making a restaurant reservation over the phone. The room felt a bit dated and could use minor renovation. The shower curtain smelled really bad and needs replacing. The walls are thin, with little soundproofing. We could even hear an adult video playing next door, which was very annoying.
