The private onsens were beautiful. Everyone gets at least 50 + 25 minutes in them, and you can book extra time if it’s available. The attention to detail was lovely, right down to asking our heights at check-in so the yukata would be the right length. That was a treat for 4'11 me and my 6' partner, who can both have trouble finding things that fit. The service was excellent, the rooms were traditional, and waking up to the river view was wonderful. They catered to dietary requirements and made me feel safer about food than I had anywhere else in Japan. It was a real highlight of our trip. Yes, it pushed our accommodation budget, but it felt like good value once we counted the multi-course dinner, breakfast, and onsen. Just know the bedding is a traditional roll-up mattress. If you like a very firm bed, you’ll like it, but I struggled a bit, though that’s because of my bad back, not the hotel. Also, the walk from the train station is five minutes uphill, with steps back to the station, so big bags are a pain. You can leave them in a coin locker and take an overnight bag, have Yamato deliver your luggage to the next hotel, or take the bus, which stops right outside.

We spent well over our usual daily lodging budget, and it was absolutely worth it. The place is beautiful and peaceful, with lovely river-facing rooms and a wonderful Japanese feel. There are three private onsens and two shared ones, all open 24 hours, which made for a great way to start or end the day. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were delicious, with so many different dishes that I could write pages about them. They brought the meals to our room, so everything felt private and cozy. The woman who looked after us, served the food, and prepared the room was so kind and patient in explaining each dish and how to enjoy it. I’m sorry I forgot her name. One of the best hotel experiences I’ve had. Thanks!

We loved the traditional, authentic feel of this hotel. Our room was right beside the river, and we could happily watch the water’s flowing rhythm. The room, atmosphere, and service were impeccable, and the staff treated my family with so much friendliness and care. We’ll definitely come back for another short holiday.

We stayed one night while visiting Lake Ashi and really enjoyed it. It felt traditional, and the food was authentic with plenty of variety. Our maid was especially delightful and even taught me a little Japanese. I’d gladly recommend a stay here.

I loved Fukuzumiro so much that I teared up when it was time to leave. The staff treated me with so much care, kindness, and attention, and I hope I can visit again. It’s a historic, traditional ryokan full of charm. The preserved tatami rooms and wooden structure, creaky floorboards and all, made it feel special. The kaiseki meals were thoughtfully cooked and beautifully served, and both the private and public onsen were peaceful and just the right temperature.
