Gora Kadan

A couple of small requests felt like favors being granted, rather than easy parts of the hospitality. I asked to reserve the pool for an hour after checkout. It was empty, so I expected a simple yes, but the response felt a little reluctant. It wasn’t a major problem, just a small crack in an otherwise dreamy stay. I traveled alone, and Gora Kadan was perfect for a solo trip. The room was elegant and peaceful, traditional without feeling staged, and every detail seemed intentional. The onsen was the real reset: hot water, cool air, and a feeling that’s hard to describe until you experience it. From the first moment, the place felt like a quiet escape from time. The wood, stone, water, and garden all flow together, and the silence and calm are the whole point. My room hostess was genuinely kind and attentive, which made the experience feel personal. The service overall was excellent. Gora Kadan feels transportive, a quiet, refined, deeply Japanese pause in life.

The open air bath gave us a peaceful moment together, soaking in the hot spring at our own pace. That part of onsen culture, the calm, reflection, and restorative water, felt both rooted in tradition and new to us. Earlier, we’d had a nearly two-hour beauty treatment that felt luxurious and deeply relaxing, with each step carefully tailored. The spa has a serene feel, bringing traditional Japanese wellness together with modern comfort and detail. Dinner was another highlight. The tasting menu celebrated seasonal Japanese cuisine, with fresh ingredients, satisfying flavors, and beautiful presentation. Its mix of tradition and contemporary touches made it much more memorable than an ordinary meal. Our time at Gôra Kadan was unforgettable and a major highlight of the trip. This historic luxury ryokan sits on the grounds of a former Imperial villa and is designed to fit Hakone’s natural beauty. From arrival, we felt surrounded by calm, tradition, and care. The elegance, service, and cultural richness made it feel like Japanese wellness and hospitality meeting contemporary luxury. We’d recommend it 10 out of 10 times and will always treasure the memories.

The highlight of our Japan trip was definitely this stay. My husband and I spent one night here on our honeymoon and had the most wonderful time. Our room attendant, Senki-san, was amazing. His energy was great, and his attentiveness made the stay especially memorable. Everyone at the property provided wonderful service. The room was traditional, peaceful, and beautiful, while also very comfortable. It was incredibly clean and well kept. We loved the tub in our room and also booked the private family spa in advance.

Our son and we came away with precious memories, thanks especially to Yuko Ms.. She looked after us with such kindness, greeted us with a warm smile, and noticed every detail. We’d like to express our heartfelt gratitude to her. The atmosphere at Gora Kadan was elegant and peaceful, and the kaiseki cuisine was outstanding. We’ve stayed at many wonderful ryokans, but this was where we truly experienced the meaning of omotenashi. Our day there was unforgettable.
