The house had everything we needed, from a washing machine to a private sauna, massage chairs, a nice terrace and a big bathtub. Everything was super clean and comfortable. The owner was very helpful, and food and drinks were provided, which we hadn’t even known about before arriving. This place is absolutely amazing for relaxing after a few days around Tokyo or Osaka. Can only recommend!

Rain kept us from using the lake-view deck, but the October mist made the surroundings lovely and the villa even cozier. The sulfur smell from the volcanic vents was intense on the first night, though it was fairly minimal indoors and had vanished by the next day. Hakone Doma is tucked along the road around Lake Ashi, about ten minutes’ walk from the Ropeway entrance. It’s easy to reach the sights, with plenty of parking. From the front rooms there’s a partial lake view through the mist. Inside, modern minimalism feels comfortable, with soft throws, warm lights and a layout that lets you spread out and relax. Self check-in was clear, if a bit fussy when entering passport details. After that everything went smoothly. Mori-san, our unseen but very attentive host, replied promptly and consistently through Booking.com, with thoughtful, gracious messages. Mori stocked the fridge with fresh local produce and a surprising range of meal ingredients and condiments. Mori even pointed out which mattresses were firmer or softer. And the comforters felt like marshmallow clouds. It’s a wonderful place for families or groups of friends who appreciate design, nature and deep rest. Every imaginable comfort seemed to have been thought of. I left feeling restored and blissfully sure the details had been anticipated. In a word, blissful.

We’re already talking about coming back, and next time we’ll try to stay at one of our host’s properties again. He made us feel welcome, shared thoughtful suggestions for food, local spots and activities, and was generous with his time. His kindness made a real difference to how we experienced the area. We live in Switzerland and are used to a high standard of service, but this stay impressed us. Everything was arranged so well from the start, from the relaxing bath and sauna to the thoughtfully prepared interior that made us feel at ease. The hospitality was exceptional. Highly, highly recommended.

The onsen was pure bliss for the soul. I could have stayed in the tub forever, soaking in serenity. Mr. Mori greeted us like old friends and walked us through everything, from transportation to using the villa’s onsen tubs. The villa, “Hakone Doma,” felt like stepping into a woodblock print of traditional Japan. Mr. Mori brought a gracious spirit of Japanese hospitality and made sure every detail was right. It blends nature, culture and comfort beautifully. We enjoyed premium Wagyu beef with Japanese beer and sake, and the delicate Hakone rusk Mr.Mori provided. It’s very close to the terminal, with nearby paths that give you a feel for life in motion. We also took a picturesque Hakone sightseeing cruise, and an authentic Japanese restaurant was just around the corner, its aromas drifting over. The visit brought together Japanese culture, respect, exquisite cuisine, pristine cleanliness and harmony. It was the highlight of our trip, a memory we’ll cherish for a lifetime. After we left, Mr. Mori kept sending heartfelt messages about where to see the sakura blooms, as warm as the spring sun. His villa is a dream, and we fell in love with Japan. I can’t recommend the experience enough.

What a beautiful villa! Set in front of Lake Ashi and near Togendai, it’s a great base for sightseeing. You can get away from everyday life here with a private onsen and sauna. The sauna is made of cypress from HAKONE, and it smells lovely. Staying in HAKONE was a dreamy, wonderful experience!
