We came for a day package with a private room, lunch, and onsen. Walking there felt a little dangerous because there’s no sidewalk, and unlike overnight guests, day visitors aren’t picked up. We arrived a few minutes early and had to wait outside in the cold, damp drizzle. The lobby seemed reserved for people staying overnight. Once admitted, we put our shoes in coin lockers, so bring 100 yen coins, then went up a narrow passage to the second-floor check-in desk. They explained the rules and gave us robes and towels, along with the lunch time. The room was basic, just a tatami table and chairs with no water facilities. A recliner or lounge chair would have made it more comfortable. The public onsen had the needed amenities, but lunch was only alright, nothing special. The rules, facilities, and constant up-charges made the place feel restrictive and uncomfortable for relaxing. I didn’t feel welcome, relaxed, or valued, and I won’t return.

My in-laws enjoyed every moment of our memorable stay. The authentic Japanese Kaiseki meals and hot springs were top-notch, and the hospitality was unmatched. The stylish shuttle bus was a nice extra. Thank you!

The food was excellent, the bed very comfortable, and the onsen was nice in this beautiful Hakone Ryokan. Restaurant service was impeccable. There’s a high-grade coffee machine and a tea kettle in the room, but oddly just two small cups. If you have tea after your morning coffee, you have to wash them first. A vintage shuttle bus and car service can take you to the station. Hakone itself is of absolutely zero interest.

The place is lovely for a family or couple’s getaway. It’s very well maintained, with a luxurious Japanese-style interior, and there are private onsens on each floor as well as the regular onsen. The open-air bath would be especially nice in winter. Staff were professional, kind, and helpful, the epitome of Japanese hospitality.

I’ve visited Hakone about a hundred times and had always been curious about Kamon, partly because its bus is so distinctive. The place is worn but well kept and very comfortable. Everyone was top notch and professional, from the driver who picked us up at the station to the front desk staff and restaurant server. The food was amazing, all delicious and presented beautifully, with a delightful artistic touch. Very highly recommended!
