Hakone Kowakien Miyama Furin

The traditional Japanese room was clean and looked after, and the tatami was especially comfortable. I loved the indoor and outdoor spa, too. The signs in the changing room say tattoos aren't allowed, but I checked with the front desk and they said they were okay. We could use Yunnesun spa for free, though the spa at Miyama Furin was so good that we didn't need to. You can also ask for a massage in your room from some very talented local therapists. The staff were lovely. I'd definitely come back.

Not having a shower in the room was unusual for me, but the onsen experience more than made up for it. The staff were friendly, and it was handy being so close to the bus stop. They also had a small breakfast of pastries, which was a nice touch.

The walk to the main road wasn't great, and there was no sidewalk on the way to the restaurant. Once back at the hotel, though, the onsen was relaxing, and the breakfast was amazing. They gave us Japanese robes to wear to the onsen, plus leather sandals for the hallways, but the sandals were really tight. Dinner included some fish. If you don't eat fish, you can tell the waiter and they'll swap it for chicken nuggets. The hotel itself was awesome.

We had a great stay while exploring Hakone. The hotel is on a quiet street, so it was easy to relax at night, and bus routes nearby took us to and from Gora. The two attendants at the main counter were really kind and helpful, and did their best to meet our requests.
