My girlfriend and I had a wonderful, almost magical stay at Kansuiro Annex. The room was completely quiet, with no street noise at all, and the atmosphere was peaceful. The baths were spotless, too. I’ve read the negative reviews, and my experience was completely different. The staff were incredibly kind, genuinely welcoming, and attentive. I’d recommend Kansuiro Annex to anyone visiting Hakone. Please don’t let the critical reviews put you off, this place deserves more appreciation.

I couldn’t get a decent night’s sleep: the rooms wouldn’t go fully dark, things couldn’t be completely shut down, and traffic noise carried on constantly. The onsen had a strong chlorine smell that ruined it for me, and the breakfast was practically inedible, nowhere near what I’d expect from a four-star hotel. The staff weren’t welcoming either. Very disappointing and extremely overpriced for what it offers, far from the rating it claims and not worth the high price.

Rajbahak and Saru deserve a special thank you. From the moment you walk in, the staff greet you with real kindness, and these two stood out to me. The staff are attentive, very professional, and speak English very well. The hotel itself is tranquil, with beautiful hot springs and plenty of services for guests. We recommend it.

The hot spring bath was lovely, with a cozy Japanese garden feel, and I really enjoyed the handmade bagel. Breakfast overall was good. The building has a warm Japanese style and atmosphere. There’s no elevator, which made going up and down with luggage difficult for my parents, although the staff kindly helped carry it. The bathroom and toilet are shared, which wasn’t convenient for my parents, but I enjoyed the experience.

The main road runs right outside, and the traffic noise kept me from getting an uninterrupted night’s sleep. Unless you’re a very deep sleeper, it may be an issue. I stayed in room 101, which was incredible, with a layout and furniture that blended Japanese and Scandinavian styles. The staff were amazing, the food was great, and the outdoor onsen baths were among the best I’ve used in a while. It would have been beyond five stars without the road noise. I’m not sure whether there are rooms facing away from the main road, but if there are, I can definitely recommend it. Otherwise, I’m less sure, at least until electric cars and trucks get quieter.
