Gorakan

Ayumi-san, who was always at the restaurant, was so friendly and did her best to make us feel welcome. The breakfast and dinner were especially impressive, with the sort of meals that would cost a lot at a restaurant. It felt like having omakase every night. The building and rooms are dated, but they were clean and well looked after. The hotel is behind Gora station, and getting there means using stairs, so keep heavy luggage in mind. There are public and private onsens, and booking one was easy. On my last day it was raining while I waited for a taxi. The owner offered me an umbrella. I said I was getting a taxi and didn't need it, but he insisted I take it and said I could throw it away at my destination if I didn't need it. His English may be limited, but the gesture was very warm. Arigato Gozaimasu. I had one of the best stays of my December 2026 Japan trip. For the price, it was a great ryokan experience, and I'd return to Hakone and stay here again.

The dinners were unbelievably delicious, and the whole hotel was very clean. Everyone on staff was lovely. It's about a two minute walk to the station, too. A great place to stay while visiting Hakone.

Such an authentic ryokan stay. Everything was very clean, and the staff were exceptionally kind and polite. The kaiseki looked like beautiful works of art.

We ate some of the best food I've ever had at Hotel Gorakon. Breakfast and dinner were top quality, and staying close to the bus system was handy. We used the two day pass easily. I had worried that being near the station might mean nighttime noise, but neither my wife nor I woke up from any. It was very foggy during our stay, so I can't really comment on the views. The fog made taking a private bath an interesting experience. We didn't use the public bath since the private one was all we needed. If we visit Hakone again, we'll stay at Gorakon.
