Sengokubara cocon

My room, Aoi (Aoi), felt almost like an apartment, with lovely forest views. There are just five rooms, and being so close to the trees felt surreal, like I could reach out and touch them. The bathroom was a highlight: sauna, cold bath, and hotspring bath. The female onsen was only a short walk down the hall. I also had a decent mini bar and coffee, though for tea you’re meant to call the staff. The French Japanese meal comes from a wood fired kitchen, and they packed a small wooden bento box of snacks for later. It was $800 half board. The hotel is elegant in both its shared areas and private spaces, tucked away from the usual route. This is my fourth stay in Hakone, and Cocon felt like a step up from the others, each of which had its own appeal. A real jewel in Hakone. It’s a stylish, modern hideaway beside the forest. It feels remote, but the lake is only a four minute drive away. Hakone has plenty of underappreciated art and nature spots, so I’d skip the main attractions. Beautiful new hotel, 5/5.

Cocon turned out to be a wonderful surprise. The place has only five rooms and has recently been renovated. Ours was spacious and lovely, and the restaurant food was Michelin-star level. Service was just as impressive, with so much care and attention. Matsumiya-san, whom we affectionately called “George Clooney,” was especially helpful and kind. The hotel’s shuttle to local museums and attractions was really useful, and the goats were very cute too. Thanks, Cocon. We’re already hoping to return.

By the end, I felt I knew the staff personally. I’ve never had an experience like it, a real VIP stay. The location, service, and food were all amazing. I’d absolutely recommend staying here on the trip between Tokyo and Kyoto or Osaka.

After our wedding ceremony at Hakone Shrine, both our families stayed here. The team coordinated closely with the staff at Kokon Wedding and handled everything, from our room the night before to getting dressed, preparing for the ceremony, and arranging car transfers. The welcome and care continued at the hotel, where they made the stay feel comfortable and special. The room was wonderful, and the food was so good it moved us. They arranged a private dinner and prepared a wedding cake. Our families were delighted, and we came away with memories we’ll always treasure. I’m sure finding this hotel helped everything go smoothly and made the wedding so lovely. I’m truly grateful. It has a special place in our hearts, and we hope to come back. Thank you so much.
