The illuminated garden looked beautiful from the restaurant during our multi-course Kaiseki dinner. The traditional Japanese breakfast was another part of the stay. The huge historic garden was the highlight, with ponds, lush trees, and streams of water. Walking through it felt like being inside a postcard, and we even saw fireflies on an after-dinner stroll. The rooms were beautifully kept and had a peaceful, authentic ryokan feel. Service was warm, welcoming, and attentive. The natural hot spring water was top quality, and the indoor and outdoor rotenburo baths were available almost 24 hours. A soak under the stars after a day of exploring was pure bliss. Getting there was easy too, just a flat seven-minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station, so there was no need to drag bags up steep hills.

We stayed for one night in late September 2025 with our three kids, ages 12, 8, and 6. They absolutely loved it. There were nice shops and restaurants an easy walk away, and the staff were kind. The gardens were wonderful for wandering around and relaxing, with lots of photo spots. The front desk kindly gave me a tattoo cover for the hot springs. All five of us enjoyed the baths. It was especially peaceful at night, when we had them to ourselves. There were no other guests around after 8 p.m. We also liked sleeping on the traditional mats on the floor. They were very comfortable. The rooms smell like grass because of the woven grass used in much of their construction. I’d normally be allergic to things like that, but I had no trouble.

The garden was lush and peaceful, the most incredible one I’ve ever seen. The onsen were lovely, and having a private one was a nice extra. Food was great, while the service and amenities were pretty good too. The hotel is a bit old and shows its age, though I had no complaints. Most of the staff spoke decent English. It was a great experience, and I wish we’d stayed more days.

We had a good time overall, and the rooms were huge. Once the air beds were brought out after dinner, it felt easier to settle in and relax. The language barrier made things tricky, and we felt left to work out the bathing arrangements ourselves. The baths are separate for men and women, though the private onsen meant we could bathe as a family. The pool opened on the morning we left, so we managed a quick swim. Unfortunately, it was full of old flies and mosquitoes. Our room also had mosquitoes, and we were all badly bitten. The food is Japanese. We were told we had to eat in a separate room because of our three-year-old, which seemed odd since we met another family with three children who said they ate in the main dining room. Personally, I wouldn’t bother with the food. Service was slow, and nobody explained what we were eating. Be ready to figure a lot of things out yourself.

The huge garden was my favorite part, with waterfalls, ponds, and thousands of koi fish to feed. It was a lovely place to walk, relax, and take photos. Our spacious, modern, comfortable suite had its own private onsen, which made the stay especially relaxing and private. Traditional kimono and slippers were provided. The one drawback was the limited dining selection for anyone who doesn’t prefer seafood. Still, this peaceful, unique ryokan stay went beyond expectations. Highly recommended.
