Yushintei

The staff were especially kind and courteous. Thank you! Our Japanese-style room was beautiful, clean, and very spacious. The little onsen in the room was a lovely temperature, and guests can also book one of the hotel's three private onsens for 40 minutes at a time. The bathing rooms lock, so people with tattoos can enjoy a warm soak as well. The location worked perfectly for us. Onsen hotels are naturally near the springs, not down in the valley. If you're comfortable walking and don't have much luggage, you can walk from the station. Lawson, 7eleven, and several restaurants are close by. Otherwise, you can take a bus or taxi.

Our room was the highlight: traditional Japanese design and architecture, with a private onsen inside. There are other baths in the hotel as well. The man who greeted us was polite and kind, and told us about the different services. Ryokan Yushintei is about 5-10 minutes by taxi from Hakone-Yumoto Station. It was a wonderful, relaxing way to enjoy Japanese traditions, and we strongly recommend it.

The staff are so sweet and really want guests to have an authentic Japanese experience. The place feels calm and serene, great for a relaxing break. It's a bit far from the main strip, but worth it. The rooms are spacious compared with the ones we had in Tokyo. The TV doesn't connect to Netflix, but maybe that's a good excuse to disconnect while you're here. Definitely recommend it, and I wish I'd booked more days.

The room was nice, and so was the onsen in it. The meals, though, left us hungry. Breakfast was a smelly fish and an egg that seemed barely boiled, around 30 seconds, as soon as I opened my eyes. I know it's Japanese-style food and a ryokan, but for an extra €120 for two people, they could at least offer two fried eggs for anyone who doesn't like that kind of breakfast. A 7-eleven sandwich would have been better. Dinner was okay, I guess, but I've had better traditional meals in Japan. The food looked good in photos, but wasn't that enjoyable to eat. And don't order the coffee, it's sour.
